Nourishing Woman Haiku

When I went to Kripalu to attend Deborah Davis’ “Nourishing Woman Qigong” workshop (November 6-11, 2011), I inadvertently left my camera at home. It’s just as well because I was able to capture a few snapshots with words instead of pixels. Haiku are there, waiting for us like shells on a beach, like small gifts waiting to be received. Thank you to Deborah and all the Nourishing Women who shared their lives with me that one memorable week. Each of you holds a special place in my heart and each day we spent together is a gift that I am still unwrapping. Thank you.

Namaste,
Holli

blue November sky
women reaching and breathing
their heads full of stars

women stand like trees
their feet rooted in the earth
their arms cradling heaven

beautiful women
following the white crane
rising and falling

women sitting--
the sun and moon in their breasts
fire in their hands

hawk soaring above
women walking and bending
breathing with trees

spiraling women
heaven and earth meet in the
sway of their bellies

powerful women
gazing with white tiger’s eyes
transforming sorrow

stumbling women
learning a new way to walk
chickadees cheering

woman astride bear
teaching her girl-self to ride
neither is afraid
(for Dana)

women chasing leaves
running and diving
floating gently down to earth

with gentle hands
women weaving sacred space
sunlight and shadow

coiling women
poised on the edge of the world
shedding their own skins
